Three potential signings that could solve Chelsea's left-back problem

The left-back position is one of the areas that Chelsea must strengthen if the transfer ban is lifted. Lampard seems unconvinced by Marcus Alonso, and Emerson has put in some disappointing performances of late. Here are three potential signings that could solve Chelsea’s left-back problem.

Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell is likely to be Chelsea’s number one left-back target. Fans are desperate for the club to sign the Englishman, and he would give the Blues a reliable, long term left-sided full-back.

He is defensively very strong, whilst also possessing the ability to deliver a great cross into the box and pop up with the odd goal. Chilwell would also count as a homegrown talent and at just 22-years-old, he will only improve in the coming years.

The 24-year-old Valencia right-back showed his ability in the left-back position first hand to the Blues in the recent Champions League game between the two sides.

He was impressive in the 2-2 draw last Wednesday and looked solidly defensively. He also looked dangerous going forward. A player who plays with pace, intensity, and passion, Gaya would be a great long term solution at left-back for Chelsea.

Alex Grimaldo is turning heads with impressive performances for Benfica this season. He has already provided four league assists this year, more than Marcus Alonso and Emerson combined and would be a huge coup for the Blues.

Portuguese site A Bola report that £34m would need to be paid to secure the 24-year-olds services. That could prove to be a bargain for a left-back who could be in the first team for a number of years.
