Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel insisted there is no need to make “big adjustments” to make in the team despite their poor defensive record in recent weeks.
Just a few weeks ago, the Blues still boasted the best defensive record in the league with only four goals conceded in 12 Premier League games.
However, they conceded 10 goals in the last five games in all competitions with seven of them being in the Premier League.
Tuchel is unsurprisingly questioned about the significant increase in the numbers of goals they conceded, but the German seems to be very confident of his team.
“It’s not built on clean sheets. The clean sheets happen when we’re playing, and we keep on playing,” Tucehl told Chelsea TV.
“We can improve in some details, but we were never shy to say to get a clean sheet, you need luck and a certain momentum.
“Today we were investing like hell in active, high recoveries up the pitch, and suddenly it’s a penalty against you. That cost you.
“So there are no big things to adjust. Clean sheets will come when we focus on us and not on the results.”
While it is not necessarily built on clean sheets, it is very clear their solid defence played a major part in their recent success under the manager.
Having to outscore the opponents every week does not seem to be viable in the long term, especially considering how inconsistent the young Chelsea attacking line is.
Although, N’Golo Kante’s expected return on Tuesday will be a big boost for the Blues defensively given what he offers.
