Tuchel invites versatile 18-year-old academy star to Chelsea training ahead of Malmo clash

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has invited academy star Harvey Vale to train with the first team ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Malmo.

The Blues manager ruled out four players; Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount out of the trip to Malmo during his pre-match press conference on Monday.

He also confirmed that Christian Pulisic, who has been absent since September, is back in the squad.

Despite these absences, Tuchel will still have plenty of attacking midfield options at his disposal, including Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley.

But Tuchel still decided to involve academy attacking midfielder Vale in their preparation for the game.

This is not the first time Vale has been involved in the senior set-up, either, having previously made the first-team squad in last week’s Carabao Cup win over Southampton.

The versatile midfielder did not feature in the game, unfortunately, and is still waiting for his senior debut.

A cameo or, even better, a start against Malmo could be on the cards, though, as Vale seems to have travelled with the first-team squad based on Antonio Rudiger’s Instagram post.

Update: Chelsea have confirmed that Vale is indeed in the travelling squad, but Tuchel is now surprisingly without a fifth player for the tie.
