Mauricio Pochettino is laying down some ground rules at Chelsea as he aims to improve on the disastrous 2022/23 campaign.

According to The Athletic, the Argentine is placing a focus on squad morale, due to the fact he feels those at Chelsea are slightly disconnected.

So, what has Mauricio Pochettino done at Chelsea to change this? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – as detailed by The Athletic – the South American has asked his Chelsea players not to sit in the same group every day, as he aims to create a feeling of togetherness at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino does not want cliques to form within his squad at Chelsea, hence why he is so keen for everyone to mingle amongst each other.

In our view, it is a genius idea, as simple as it may sound.

For anyone who watched the All or Nothing documentary about Arsenal on Amazon Prime, you may recall Edu – Director of Football at the Emirates Stadium – make a point of mentioning how everyone now sits together since Mikel Arteta took over from Unai Emery.

It may sound basic, but creating a strong culture is key for any successful side, and it is no surprise to see Arsenal make considerable progress under the Spaniard since he began focusing on togetherness and team spirit.

Hopefully, Pochettino can instil a similar feeling at Chelsea.

Some more sales are vital for Pochettino’s Chelsea vision

In our view, Pochettino still needs to offload some players before he can truly transform the culture at Chelsea.

Huge names such as Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was released by Arteta at Arsenal due to his problematic nature, must be sold this summer.

If the pair end up hanging around for the 2023/24 campaign, along with Hakim Ziyech, they could begin to chip away at the strong bond Pochettino is trying to create.

These are big egos, who – according to the Telegraph – are not in Pochettino’s plans at Chelsea, so if they are not offloaded, they could cause issues given the fact they aren’t pulling in the same direction.
