'World-class talent': Todd Boehly reacts as Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea on five-year deal

Todd Boehly has expressed his utter delight at Chelsea confirming the signing of Raheem Sterling on Wednesday.

The Blues have put their supporters out of their misery by finally announcing the signing of the 27-year-old from Manchester City, after plenty of transfer speculation this summer.

Chelsea put out a statement on their official website this evening to confirm Sterling has completed a transfer to Stamford Bridge.

The England international has penned a five-year contract in West London.

It means that a four-time Premier League winner has been added to Thomas Tuchel’s squad to strengthen them for the new season.

Chelsea confirming Raheem Sterling

Chelsea’s co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly has given his instant reaction to the announcement.

The American businessman has described him as a “world-class talent” that’s joined the club.

“Raheem Sterling is a serial winner and his signing is an important step in strengthening our squad. We are delighted for Raheem to return to London with Chelsea, and we look forward to seeing his world-class talent on display at Stamford Bridge,” Boehly said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

For certain, it’s a great way for the new ownership to endear themselves to the fanbase.

Sterling, who joins as someone entering their very peak, should be able to make a big impact in attack.

The left-winger leaves Man City with 131 goals and 94 assists in 337 appearances for them.

It’s worth pointing out how crucial he is to Gareth Southgate’s current England line-up, too.

This is a great signal of intent from the owners that Chelsea are prepared to back their manager Thomas Tuchel.

Sterling is a marquee addition with the potential to reenergise this attack.

It’s been reported he’s unlikely to make his debut for his new club until next week, but what excitement there’s been building around his signature.

Sterling’s official shirt number at Chelsea is still yet to be announced.
