Djordje Petrovic was the hero in Chelsea’s last outing, a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Newcastle United.
The game went to penalties and Djordje Petrovic managed to save Matt Ritchie’s spot kick, sending Chelsea into the semi-finals of the competition, where they will take on Middlesbrough.
The goalkeeper will now need to put in another good performance later today when his side face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux as he looks to become the No.1 at Stamford Bridge.
Robert Sanchez’s injury not as bad as first feared
Petrovic has come into the Chelsea team because of an injury to first-choice shot-stopper Robert Sanchez.
Mauricio Pochettino initially feared that there was a possibility of the Spaniard being out for up to six weeks.
However, according to football.london, Sanchez could actually be back in the next couple of weeks.
It means Petrovic may not have too many more opportunities to prove himself in the Premier League, which is why today’s match against Wolves is such a big one for the 24-year-old. He needs things to go well this afternoon, without a doubt.

January transfer window close to opening
The Evening Standard recently reported that Chelsea will opt against making a move for a new goalkeeper next month when the transfer window opens.
It makes sense, as the club only signed Sanchez in the summer, while Petrovic, who is also a fresh addition to the squad after his £14m move (Sky Sports) from New England Revolution in August, has made a positive impact in his team-mate’s absence.
However, the January transfer window will be hanging over the Serbian’s head. A couple of bad performances and a setback to Sanchez, which you would not rule out when you look at Chelsea’s injury record this season, and maybe the Blues will consider entering the market for another goalkeeper.
A good display against Wolves, then, could perhaps end up going a long way for Petrovic.
