‘Amazing’ Chelsea player actually impressed despite Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle

There were certainly not too many positives to be taken for Chelsea after they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle tonight.

Despite beating the same opposition 2-1 at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, they were on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat after a few minutes of madness saw them self-destruct in the first half.

Axel Disasi failed to impress Chelsea fans, with him putting through his own net to pile more misery on the backline.

A number of the players were looking to prove to Enzo Maresca that they should be considered for more minutes in the Premier League, although few will have impressed the boss tonight.

Perhaps the standout performer on a grim night was Mykhailo Mudryk, who is enjoying somewhat of a return to form at the moment.

Chelsea fans loved Mudryk’s performance in the Conference League last week, and he has been putting pressure on the boss to recall him to the Premier League squad.

He looked Chelsea’s biggest threat all night down the left wing, with him being the only real pacey outlet after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall found himself on the right.

Pedro Neto likely to start left-wing for Chelsea vs United

Jadon Sancho had held down the left wing position for the majority of the season so far, however has not been present now in the last three starting squads.

His role was taken by Pedro Neto at the weekend, with the Portugal international impressing greatly and picking up an assist for Nicolas Jackson’s opener.

Neto is likely to remain in the side who start at Old Trafford on Sunday, as Chelsea become the first side to take on Manchester United since the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

However, Mudryk has certainly played himself into the manager’s plans of late, with him coming off the bench ahead of Sancho last weekend. He could make a real statement with a cameo performance on Sunday.
