After being seen as seen as an exciting player for years to come when signed, Carney Chukwuemeka’s future at Chelsea now looks very bleak.

The midfielder has started just one game in the time Enzo Maresca has been manager of the club, with that coming in freezing conditions in the Conference League where first team stars were spared.

The injury problems which plagued Chukwuemeka’s campaign under Mauricio Pochettino seem to have disappeared, however he is very rarely even seen in the matchday squad now when Premier League games come around.

Strasbourg loan could save Carney Chukwuemeka’s Chelsea career

For this reason, it has been easy to see why there have been lots of reports that he could be on the move during the January transfer window.

A number of clubs have been linked with taking the youngster either permanently or on loan, and the option of a loan to Strasbourg cropped up yesterday.

The Ligue 1 club are under the same BlueCo banner as Chelsea, with them clearly taking a fond interest in goings on there.

This move could pose Chukwuemeka’s last chance at saving his career at Stamford Bridge, with impressive performances there not going to go unmissed.

The Blues would need to recall one of their three loanees at the club for this to be possible, with Caleb Wiley, Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic currently featuring.

Chelsea could use Carney Chukwuemeka to sign Marc Guehi

If they don’t decide to send the midfielder to Strasbourg, one of the sides in the Premier League who have previously registered an interest in him is Crystal Palace.

There could be mutual interest in the clubs striking a deal, amid reports that Chelsea are keen on signing Marc Guehi.

The Blues could reportedly use Chukwuemeka in negotiations for Guehi, with them likely to struggle to cough up the amount of money Palace would want to let go of their captain midway through the season.
