Chelsea and Enzo Maresca have no choice but to keep Djordje Petrovic after what’s just come out

Chelsea may have actually loaned out their best goalkeeper last summer as Djordje Petrovic continues to impress at Strasbourg.

Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen are the first and second-choice shot-stoppers at Stamford Bridge right now, but neither has convinced.

Petrovic, on the other hand, is winning plenty of plaudits over in France. Statistically, he has been one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, and Chelsea could now give Petrovic another chance to become their No.1.

Petrovic staying in west London next season could pave the way for Jorgensen to leave. It has already been claimed that Jorgensen could join Strasbourg as a replacement.

Djordje Petrovic Europe’s top goalkeeper

Chelsea fans want to see Petrovic return to the club in the summer and remain part of Enzo Maresca‘s squad, and it is no surprise after some of his performances for Strasbourg.

The 25-year-old is first on WhoScored’s list of highest-rated goalkeepers in Europe’s top five leagues this season, which is really impressive.

Not being deemed good enough to compete with Sanchez at one point, Petrovic has proven a lot of people at Chelsea wrong.

Ahead of the summer transfer window opening, the Blues are being linked with a couple of shot-stoppers.

It has been claimed that Chelsea are in for Diogo Costa, battling Manchester City and Manchester United for the Porto star.

They have also been linked with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, but you could argue that Petrovic has done enough at Strasbourg to get an opportunity between the sticks at Stamford Bridge.

Djordje Petrovic’s stats should now give Enzo Maresca something to think about

Leeds United could make a move for Petrovic after winning promotion to the Premier League, but at this stage Maresca surely has to be thinking about making Petrovic his No.1.

In Ligue 1 this season, the Serbia international has recorded a save percentage of 80%. He has also kept 10 clean sheets, which is not bad.

Even if Chelsea can land Costa or Maignan, it may be worth getting rid of Sanchez and Jorgensen and using Petrovic as their No.2 if he is open to that.
