Chelsea are making a mistake with Benoit Badisahile but they don’t see it

Benoit Badiashile has turned into a bit of a forgotten man at Chelsea, yet his chapter at Stamford Bridge doesn’t appear to be finished.

Benoit Badiashile’s time at Chelsea has been severely disrupted by persistent fitness issues since his move from Monaco. He did manage to contribute to Chelsea’s Conference League and Club World Cup campaigns, but he has struggled to secure a sustained run in the starting eleven.

He’s had to get used to sporadic appearances over the past year, and even when he has been used the performances have been below par.

Badiashile’s performance against Wrexham stands out as a particularly bad one, and Chelsea fans even pleaded with the club not to start him against Leeds United.

What is happening with Benoit Badiashile?

Well, in the eyes of Chelsea, Benoit Badiashile is exactly where he should be, ability and performance wise.

This was Ben Jacobs’ recent update.

“Badiashile they’ve always rated. So every time people ask me about Badiashile, I’ve always been told that his development’s on track and as a consequence, I think there’s a realistic chance that he just stays even if he’s not starting every game.”

Yet, you can’t help but feel that this just seems strange.

From an outside perspective, as mentioned, his time at Stamford Bridge appears deeply unsettled. He has struggled for consistent match rhythm, suffered repeated soft-tissue injuries, and found himself routinely rotated out of the starting eleven.

In modern football, a big-money signing facing those specific circumstances is almost universally labeled as a prime candidate for a summer transfer, particularly with an incoming manager like Xabi Alonso shaking up the squad.

Chelsea’s defensive unit faces restructuring ahead of Xabi Alonso’s arrival, especially with the club advancing in talks for Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix. The Blues currently possess a crowded department featuring Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Mamadou Sarr, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.

To clear squad space and secure pure profit for financial regulations, Chelsea is prepared to sanction the departure of Trevoh Chalobah, who is attracting serious interest from Serie A side Como.

Despite Chalobah playing more minutes than any other Chelsea centre-back last season, the academy graduate remains the primary sacrifice, rather than getting rid of a player like Badiashile, who has shown nothing to prove he deserves a future at the club.
