Chelsea can help keep Enzo Maresca happy with clever January loan signing

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been left unhappy for multiple reasons at the start of this season, and the players he currently has at his disposal look a big reason for that.

It has been reported that Maresca is not happy with his current squad, and he is feeling the effects of the mammoth previous campaign that saw them crowned world champions.

Levi Colwill, Cole Palmer and Liam Delap are amongst those who have missed prolonged periods of time already this season due to injuries, and the latter’s absence is being felt badly right now.

Joao Pedro has been forced to play the majority of games up front, which is not getting the best out of him, and a temporary addition in January could be a season-saver for the Blues.

Chelsea can keep Enzo Maresca happy by signing Ivan Toney on loan

One player they have previously been linked to is Ivan Toney. They were very keen on signing him when he was at Brentford, however he elected to join Al-Ahli instead.

The England international has a very strong goalscoring record in the Premier League. Despite playing for a relegation-threatened side, he scored 36 goals in 83 games.

Despite this, Toney actually has a relatively poor record against Chelsea. In seven outings against them, he is yet to find the net, assisting once in the 4-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca clearly does not fancy giving Marc Guiu any minutes after his loan recall from Sunderland, and a new striker would no doubt delight the boss as he looks to build on last season’s impressive outings.

Toney’s stats for Al-Ahli

The Saudi Pro League continues to become a more competitive league as the seasons go on, and Toney’s record since moving from the Premier League is very impressive.

Given the fact that Chelsea are set to welcome Emanuel Emegha to the club at the end of the season, a short-term option could be the answer for the Blues to bolster their options for this season.

The World Cup at the end of the season will be a target for Toney, and he would likely be looking for regular minutes if he was to move midway through the campaign.
