Chelsea have secured the signing of forward Emanuel Emegha from Strasbourg for next season.
22-year-old Dutch striker Emanuel Emegha has been on many a target list this summer, but he himself announced that he would be joining Chelsea at the end of the season.
The Strasbourg captain didn’t want rumours distracting from the French side’s season, and so his impending move to Stamford Bridge was confirmed last week.
But Emegha’s move suggests one Chelsea player won’t be coming back into the squad. That’s according to a fresh update from Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano claims Nicolas Jackson’s fate has been sealed by Emanuel Emegha signing
Nicolas Jackson left the club on loan in the final days of the window, but the temporary nature of the deal left the door ajar for a Chelsea return.
Romano thinks that door has been shut by Chelsea’s most recent piece of business.
Discussing the Bayern striker in his latest YouTube update, Romano believes Jackson won’t make a Stamford Bridge return.
He says: “The feeling at Chelsea is that with Jackson, it’s over. Emanuel Emegha will get that place of that kind of striker. In terms of skills, obviously, they’re not the same kind of player.
“But Chelsea see a big potential in Emegha, and this is why they decided to prepare this deal for 2026, as I revealed to you in the past few days. Then for Jackson, and for Chelsea, it’s over.”
When Jackson’s move to Germany was revealed to be on a loan basis, some thought he could make his way back into Enzo Maresca’s thoughts. But the acquisition of another player for that position makes a return look impossible.
The odds are in Chelsea’s favour at the striker position
A critique of Chelsea in recent seasons has been the lack of a bona fide goalscorer in the side. Jackson was a good player capable of reaching a decent tally, but he was never considered a lethal number nine.

But with the addition of Emegha, that makes three promising young strikers for Chelsea to develop in the coming seasons.
As mentioned, the Dutchman is just 22, as is Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro is just a year older. That’s three young strikers with world-class ceilings at Maresca’s disposal. Chances are, at least one will fulfil their potential.
When Chelsea don’t perform well, the age factor is almost always used against them, but it’s hard to look at the attacking options and not think this should be one of the most dangerous sides in the league in a few seasons’ time.
