You can’t help but be happy for Marc Cucurella for the way he’s performed in recent games for Chelsea.

Marc Cucurella was firmly under the microscope during his debut season at Chelsea last year, largely because the club spent a mega £60million (Sky Sports) to sign him from rivals Brighton.

Unfortunately, the 25-year-old defender really struggled to live up to expectation during the 2022/23 campaign.

We’re now seeing the left-back show lots of fight and heart to enjoy a mini revival lately, though.

Chelsea U-turn

Cucurella’s started the past five consecutive matches across all competitions for Chelsea, reminding everyone how good he can be in the process.

First of all, the left-footer showed great versatility to cover at right-back when the team was short of options. He’s now getting a run of opportunities in his preferred left-back spot.

Speaking to BBC Sport last week, Pat Nevin said that Chelsea are now finally starting to get the best from Cucurella this season.

With Ben Chilwell sidelined through injury right now, Cucurella’s got the perfect opportunity to keep impressing Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino at left-back.

We wonder if everybody went too soon to fully write him off at Stamford Bridge.

From the outside looking in, Cucurella appears to be a great character within the dressing room and he may be growing into a really influential figure.

The Spanish full-back has uploaded a post on social media this week ahead of Wednesday night’s important Carabao Cup tie at home to Blackburn Rovers.

Cucurella wrote on Instagram: “We keep going, vamos.”

Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford last Saturday in the Premier League felt like a significant blow just as this team was starting to find some momentum. Therefore, it’s going to take some big leaders and personalities to lift the mood around the camp.

If Cucurella’s recent form continues like it is, we’ve got high hopes for him this term.

Chelsea fans will certainly love hearing him be vocal both on and off the pitch!
