If Chelsea were hoping to sign one Premier League star next year, then they can forget it.
Chelsea fans will be hoping to see the club bring in a new goalkeeper and central defender in 2026.
Robert Sanchez has already made one big mistake this season, getting himself sent off at Old Trafford, while Enzo Maresca is currently dealing with an injury crisis in defence.
It has been claimed that Chelsea are interested in signing Marc Guehi in January, but convincing the Crystal Palace captain to join them will not be easy.

Chelsea had perfect opportunity to sign Marc Guehi before Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich’s interest
Chelsea were also linked with Guehi in the summer transfer window, but they never made a move for him in the end. It is a decision that the club could come to regret.
There was not too much interest in the central defender at the time. Liverpool were his only genuine suitors and took forever to agree a fee with Palace before a deal fell through at the very last minute. Ultimately, Chelsea had a great chance to sign him earlier in the window.
Ahead of the transfer market reopening in January, journalist Florian Plettenberg has reported on X that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are all now set to battle it out for Guehi‘s signature.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will actually make an offer for their former academy player this time around. But if the Club World Cup winners do, they are unlikely to get anywhere with it.
It is hard to imagine Guehi picking Chelsea over any of those clubs. The window to sign Guehi may now be gone for the Blues.

How much Chelsea could have signed Marc Guehi for
In the last transfer window, Chelsea could have landed Guehi for less than £40m. Liverpool agreed a £35m deal with Palace to sign the 25-year-old, so he was on the market and available for a very good price.
Palace will not want to let Guehi go, especially for such a low price. But with the England international’s contract expiring next summer, their hands are tied.
Whoever ends up with Guehi will be getting a brilliant footballer. “He’s a fabulous player,” former Bayern and Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves said on TNT Sports earlier this month.
