Chelsea are bracing themselves for an offer from Real Madrid for one of their top players, and must get their next signing right if they are to lose him.
Enzo Fernandez has been a near ever-present for the Blues so far this season, however his talent and performances have not gone unnoticed by one of the biggest clubs in world football.
Chelsea are prepared for Madrid to make a bid for Fernandez, with their admiration for him lasting a number of months now.
It has previously been reported that Madrid want Fernandez to push for a move away, however all the signs are that he is happy playing at Stamford Bridge, and still has plenty of time left on his current contract.

Chelsea’s ideal replacement for Enzo Fernandez
Despite this, the pull of Real Madrid is something that players can very rarely ignore, and Chelsea must be smart in the transfer market if they are to have to replace him.
One of the names they have reportedly been linked to is Adam Wharton, who has taken his career to new heights since he made the move to Crystal Palace.

The Englishman has maintained his good form alongside Palace’s excellent start to the season, and even in defeat manages to impress.
Jack Grealish hailed Wharton as ‘unbelievable’ after Everton’s win against the Eagles at the weekend, believing he should have been handed the Player of the Match award.
Reports from before the summer stated that Wharton was valued at around £60m (Mail Online), however the FA Cup holders will clearly not want to part ways with one of their best players for a fee around that.

Chelsea’s previous interest in Wharton
Despite starring at Palace, Chelsea’s interest in Wharton stems back further than his move to London.
Chelsea were prepared to bid for Wharton in January 2024 when he was still at Blackburn Rovers, despite only recently signing the likes of Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
All three have shown their importance to the Blues, however there are concerns from supporters over how injuries have affected Lavia since his move to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues should do anything they can to keep hold of the World Cup winner, but if they do need to go into the market then Wharton is clearly the one they must be targeting.
