Chelsea and Liverpool went head-to-head for Moises Caicedo’s signature back in the summer of 2023.
Chelsea came out as victors, landing Caicedo for a record fee, but Liverpool could get their shot at revenge in the next transfer window.
Both clubs are interested in the same centre-back as they look to strengthen their defences for the 2025/26 campaign.
The Blues could also sign a new striker before the start of next season. It has been claimed that Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is one name on Chelsea’s shortlist.

Chelsea need to beat Liverpool to Marc Guehi signing
Chelsea won the race for Caicedo and must now beat Liverpool again, but only this time to the signing of Marc Guehi.
Guehi is a target for Chelsea, but the Blues face stiff competition from the Reds for his signature.
In fact, according to the Daily Mirror, it is actually Liverpool who are in pole position to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace.
Chelsea have had problems in central defence this season, namely injuries, and Guehi is one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League. Bringing him in this summer is a no-brainer.
The 24-year-old now has a lot of experience in the top flight, is good on the ball and not afraid to put his body on the line.
Over the last year, Guehi has been making 1.77 blocks per 90, which is quite high, and completing 0.39 successful take-ons.
| Marc Guehi | Per 90 | Percentile |
| Blocks | 1.77 | 91st |
| Successful take-ons | 0.39 | 85th |
Lacking experience and leadership, Enzo Maresca could really do with a central defender like the England international, who has captained Palace this season.

Levi Colwill would welcome Marc Guehi arrival
One Chelsea player who would likely be happy about Guehi returning to the club is Levi Colwill.
The pair seem to get on well, with the former recently praising the latter. When Guehi spoke about Colwill in an interview, he said: “I’ve known him and been around him. I know what he’s capable of. Honestly the sky’s the limit for him.”
While both players are central defenders, with Colwill being left-footed, there is a good chance of Guehi partnering the 22-year-old in Maresca’s backline instead of replacing him.
And still being quite a young defender, Guehi’s experience could go a long way in helping his compatriot to improve and get through difficult moments during games.
Chelsea beat Liverpool to both Caicedo and Romeo Lavia’s signatures. They now need to make it a hat-trick with Guehi.
