Chelsea now have far better chance of signing Matheus Cunha after incident at Stamford Bridge involving Wolves fans and manager

While Chelsea fans and staff were of course far more concerned with what was happening with their own players last night, they will no doubt have been keeping an eye on one of their opponent’s top players.

The Blues finally returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge, however it was certainly not all plain sailing as they struggled for large portions of the game.

This came as a culmination of a Robert Sanchez error, dropping the ball after a dangerous corner was delivered by Matheus Cunha.

Matheus Cunha’s Stamford Bridge outburst gives Chelsea better chance at signing him

The Brazilian is reportedly a transfer target of the Blues for this January, as they continue to monitor forwards to provide competition for Nicolas Jackson.

Cunha has enjoyed a very successful season individually in the Premier League, despite Wolves flirting with the relegation places.

Cunha was clearly frustrated at full-time of last night’s game, with his antics something which new manager Vitor Pereira was not happy with.

He said to Nizaar Kinsella: “He’s a captain. He can be frustrated as he wants to win but everyone in the dressing room wants to win. I don’t like his body language. I understand it now, I won’t understand it next time.”

Wolves-based journalist Liam Keen stated after the game that Cunha had not shown respect to the travelling away fans, a statement which the forward aggressively disagreed with.

He took to X to state: ”Liar. I went to applaud them, congratulated the referees and the opposing players. Then I went to the tunnel. Don’t ever come and ask me to give you an interview again.”

Cunha would be the perfect alternative to Nicolas Jackson

The position Wolves find themselves in is clearly going to be frustrating for a player like Cunha, and could make a move away a bigger priority for him.

Joining Chelsea would still likely present an opportunity for immediate first team minutes, as they look to solve their goalscoring woes outside of Cole Palmer and Jackson.

Cunha has proven to be far more clinical than Jackson this season, and would provide perhaps the perfect alternative option to the Senegal international, who still has a lot to offer despite his lack of goals of late.
