Chelsea look to be closing in on the signing of Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid will sell Samu Omorodion to Chelsea once they land Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.
However, you would have to question the Blues’ decision to prioritise the signing of the 20-year-old, especially when the likes of Alvarez and Victor Osimhen are around.
Of course, Omorodion will not cost as much as Alvarez or Osimhen, which is likely to be one reason why Chelsea have him at the top of their shortlist.

Samu Omorodion unproven
At 20, Omorodion is obviously not the most experienced striker, and a No.9 who needs time to develop and settle is not what Chelsea need right now.
They already have Marc Guiu. If the club want a young centre-forward to provide competition to Nicolas Jackson, then why not just utilise him?
After missing out on Champions League football again last season, what Chelsea need is someone who is guaranteed to score them goals.
With that in mind, the club should be going all out for someone like Alvarez. Back in June, it was claimed that Chelsea were contemplating a move for Alvarez, but nothing ever materialised.
He now looks set for a switch to the Civitas Metropolitano instead of Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea should have made serious push for Julian Alvarez
Alvarez looks set for a move to Atletico. In fact, according to Sky Sports, the Spanish club and City have already agreed a £82m deal.
Again, then, it shows that the Argentine is clearly on the market for the right price. Perhaps Chelsea’s owners cannot sanction such a deal because of PSR, but if they can, then that is one forward who the club should be prioritising over Omorodion.
Alvarez is, of course, already familiar with the Premier League and has experience playing in a top team.
He scored 19 goals in 54 appearances last season, which is not an elite return. That being said, he was not always playing as a striker because of Erling Haaland.
As the No.1 centre-forward in Enzo Maresca‘s squad, Alvarez probably has the potential to do even better than that and perhaps fire Chelsea back into the Champions League. But it does not look like Chelsea fans will ever get to see if that is possible.
