Chelsea have several options available to them that can play as the central striker, but the transfer rumours linking them to Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion refuse to go away.
When you look at the current Chelsea squad, the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku are all genuine options as the No 9. Admittedly, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is preferring to use Nkunku a bit deeper so far on the pre-season tour of the United States.
Atletico Madrid frontman Samu Omorodion, 20, is linked with a possible move to the Premier League for the first time in his career. He’s currently away with Spain competing at the Olympic Games, which comes fresh off a year on loan where he scored eight goals in 35 games for La Liga club Alaves.
Chelsea fans aren’t convinced by the idea of Omorodion joining, but the latest reports suggest that the deal is heading in the right direction.

Atletico Madrid will sell Samu Omorodion if Julian Alvarez signs
Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed via X that Spanish giants Atletico will give a green light on Omorodion’s sale to Chelsea if they complete a deal to sign Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.
It is explained that Omorodion is open to joining the Blues and personal terms won’t be a problem. In fact, the discussions between the club and his camp are ‘progressing fast’.
Apparently, if Alvarez moves to the Metropolitano Stadium, Atletico will then sanction Omorodion’s exit for €40m (£34m).
Chelsea making the same mistakes
Like so many of Chelsea’s signings under this ownership, it looks like they’re going all out for a young star with huge potential. It’s getting to the point where many supporters are fed up of the strategy.
Omorodion doesn’t look like a bad option because the youthful striker clear has pace, power, aggression and potential. But is he ready to make an immediate impact in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge going into next season?
While Jackson tried his best last season as the main forward at Chelsea, there were plenty of times when it felt like the squad needed an experienced option to rotate with. The Blues could find themselves in the exact same problematic situation next season through their own mistakes in the transfer market.
During a recent interview with The Sun, Gary Cahill suggested Chelsea should sign experienced players. The club’s recruitment team don’t appear to be listerning, though.
