Chelsea really should sell £50m player to rivals next summer even if he has stunning season

There were some big exits at Chelsea during the summer transfer window, with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Thiago Silva both leaving the club.

Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal on deadline day, while Thiago Silva returned to Fluminense in July.

Sterling has only signed for Arsenal on an initial loan deal, meaning that Chelsea always have the option of keeping the winger when he returns to the club next summer.

However, the wise thing for the club to do is sell Sterling to their London rivals Arsenal, who could yet register an interest in signing him permanently.

Arsenal could buy Raheem Sterling

Sterling is only at Arsenal for the season, while the Gunners have no option to buy him.

However, it has been claimed that Arsenal could still end up purchasing Sterling, potentially negotiating a fee with Chelsea at the end of his loan spell.

It would not be a complete shock, as the Gunners have bought players from Chelsea recently, including Kai Havertz, who has looked rejuvenated under Mikel Arteta.

Havertz has already scored two goals for Arsenal this season, while he managed 13, as well as seven assists, in the Premier League last term.

Why Chelsea should sell Raheem Sterling to Arsenal

Arteta has proven to be a top coach at Arsenal and after reviving Havertz, perhaps he could do the same with Sterling.

Even if that happens, though, Chelsea would still be better off selling the 29-year-old to the Gunners. There is no guarantee that his form would transfer over back to Chelsea, while Enzo Maresca has more than enough attacking options in his squad.

Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk are just a few of the Chelsea manager‘s offensive options.

Sterling’s wages are also huge, with the England international’s Chelsea contract being worth £325,000 a week, according to Spotrac. It would be really good, then, if the Blues could offload their £50m winger to Arsenal permanently, even if he does manage to get back to his best this season.
