Chelsea should join race for £42m striker who’s not ‘unsellable’ in January, Blues scouts have recommended him

If Chelsea want to continue progressing as a team, they desperately need to sign another centre-forward to help share the load with Nicolas Jackson.

The Chelsea squad is certainly taking shape, especially in the last year, with Enzo Maresca steering the ship as the Blues manager. However, they need further competition in the No.9 position.

In 21 Premier League games this season, Nicolas Jackson has scored nine non-penalty goals as he leads the line impressively. There’s not another striker in the first-team group putting any pressure on the starting position, though.

While Jackson’s got immense potential and huge quality, it could be argued the club is crying out for a more clinical finisher.

Maresca does want Chelsea to sign a new striker, but he’s accepted he may need to wait until the summer before it happens.

Chelsea should join race for £42m striker Victor Bonifcace

If Chelsea are looking for any opportunities to recruit a quality frontman, they should consider joining the race for Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.

Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg reports via X that Saudi Arabia clubs are considering making a bid to sign Leverkusen striker Boniface before the January window closes.

German Bundesliga side Leverkusen are aware of interest in their 24-year-old frontman from Saudi Arabia and England. Apparently, Boniface is not viewed as “unsellable”, but he’ll cost at least €50m (£42m).

In 15 appearances this season, Boniface has scored eight goals. We think he could be the type of profile in attack that Chelsea needs adding to their squad.

The Leverkusen forward is an out-and-out centre-forward who does most of his best work inside the penalty box. He’s quick, powerful and potentially available at a decent price.

Speaking last year, Chelsea great John Obi Mikel called Boniface “really special”. The Nigeria international has just come back for Leverkusen from missing a period of time with injury and the Blues should be right in the mix if he’s on the market this month.

What Chelsea scouts recently said about Victor Boniface

Back in October, GiveMeSport claimed that Chelsea scouts have urged Maresca to try sign Leverkusen’s Boniface. They recommended the Bundesliga ace earlier in the season after being impressed by him.

Therefore, the Leverkusen star is a player that the Blues head coach will be aware of.

The youngster’s been a great goalscorer in his club career so far, so we’d love to see Chelsea make a move for him in 2025.

Regardless, Chelsea must make sure that they welcome a new goalscorer through the entrance doors soon!
