Chelsea could get the chance to sign an elite forward very soon thanks to Napoli.

Chelsea are in talks to sign Victor Osimhen in a deal that would see Romelu Lukaku head in the opposite direction.

Of course, such deals rarely happen and if this one does not go through, then Chelsea should give serious consideration to signing another top striker.

He could be on the move before the transfer window closes, with his recent comments throwing his future into doubt.

Julian Alvarez’s future up in the air after latest comments

Last month, it was claimed that Chelsea were thinking about bidding for Julian Alvarez of Manchester City. Since then, though, nothing has happened.

However, from the player’s side, he has cast some doubts over his future at the Etihad with some recent comments.

“When the Olympics is over I’ll take my time to think about what I want for myself. We’ll see what comes next,” the 24-year-old was quoted as saying by The Sun.

Offering no guarantees to City, Chelsea should consider making an offer for the Argentine once again.

Julian Alvarez’s price tag

Right now, City look very reluctant to sell Alvarez. According to The Athletic, if the Premier League champions are to sell their forward this summer, they want a package worth €90m (£75.8m) in total.

If Alvarez pushes for a move, though, perhaps City would be prepared to lower their demands. And a bid from Chelsea could be the catalyst that causes the Argentina international to seek a move away from the Etihad.

Alvarez came up with 20 goal contributions in 36 Premier League appearances last season, which is pretty good considering that he did not always get to play as a striker because of the presence of Erling Haaland.

As the No.1 centre-forward in a top team like Chelsea, you would not bet against the former River Plate man to do even better.

Ultimately, Alvarez can be that top-class forward Enzo Maresca‘s squad is currently missing. If Osimhen is off the table, then the Blues should consider making the World Cup winner a top target for what is left of the transfer window.
