The transfer window is not even open yet, but Chelsea fans are already getting frustrated with the club.
That is partly down to the fact that some of their Premier League rivals have been more proactive and made some moves in the market.
Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, while Tottenham Hotspur have landed Andy Robertson on a free transfer.
It is early days, but Chelsea are already falling behind their rivals and things could get much worse if they miss out on AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan to another Premier League outfit.
How would you react to Chelsea signing Marcus Rashford?
Tottenham could beat Chelsea to Mike Maignan signing
Chelsea are interested in signing Maignan and could really do with the 30-year-old after a season where both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen failed to convince.
However, according to Tutto Juve, Tottenham are also considering Maignan right now. After Guglielmo Vicario’s disastrous campaign, they probably need a new goalkeeper more than their London rivals.
It would not be a complete shock to see Spurs make another early move and snap up Maignan, which would be a blow for Chelsea and surely infuriate Blues supporters.
Chelsea wanted Maignan last year but could not get the job done. They have an opportunity to rectify that mistake this summer, with the Frenchman thought to be unhappy at Milan following the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.
But they need to be quick; otherwise, they risk missing out on Maignan to Tottenham.
Where would Chelsea have finished if they signed Mike Maignan last summer?
He's being lined up as a potential replacement for Robert Sanchez yet again!
Tottenham’s transfer activity is putting Chelsea to shame
Spurs almost got relegated last season, and they are clearly trying to make sure they are not in a similar situation next term.
Again, Tottenham have already signed Robertson, while Marcos Senesi is also set to arrive from Bournemouth. They have made a couple of bids for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jan Paul van Hecke and could soon make a proposal for Maignan. Meanwhile, Chelsea have done nothing.
Perhaps the Blues need to sell first, and to reiterate, the transfer window is not actually open yet. But as of now, Spurs’ window is shaping up to be a much better one than theirs.
