Chelsea fans are not too happy with Enzo Maresca right now, and the Italian only has himself to blame.
Chelsea‘s results and performances have been poor of late, with the Blues losing 2-1 to Legia Warsaw at home in the Conference League on Thursday.

After beating Legia 3-0 in Poland, Maresca‘s men were still able to qualify for the semi-finals. But that and winning the whole competition should really be the bare minimum for a club of Chelsea’s stature.
The ultimate aim has to be qualifying for the Champions League and at this rate, it looks like the Blues will fall short. Why? Because Maresca is getting a lot wrong at the worst time possible.

Enzo Maresca’s use of Reece James and Malo Gusto against Legia Warsaw was insane
Maresca currently views Reece James as a midfielder and that was clear to see in Chelsea’s loss to Legia.
The 25-year-old started in the middle of the park and given his ability, you can see why Maresca would use him there.
However, James is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League. Chelsea fans want to see the Englishman on the right flank and not deploying him there really does seem like a waste.
To make things worse, at one stage during the Legia match, Maresca had Malo Gusto, another right-back, also playing in midfield. Two defenders operating right in the middle of the pitch; it is unheard of.
What Maresca is trying right now, it is simply not working. The Chelsea manager also started Trevoh Chalobah at right-back in the 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town last weekend when he had James, Gusto and Josh Acheampong all available.
At this point, what Maresca is doing is practically self-sabotage. Maresca wants Chelsea to sign Liam Delap this summer, but after some of the decisions he has made lately, some Blues supporters will not even want him at the club by the time the transfer window opens.

Enzo Maresca still has support of owners
Despite Chelsea’s worrying form and the threat of missing out on Champions League football, Maresca feels that he still has the support of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
When Maresca was recently asked if he thinks he still has the owners’ backing, he told football.london and other outlets: “Yeah, absolutely, yes.”
At this stage, though, they surely have to be questioning the 45-year-old’s absolutely bonkers tactics.
