Reports have claimed that a Chelsea legend and former head coach of the club is closing in on a return to management.

Frank Lampard is reportedly closing in on taking the job at Coventry in the Championship, with him waiting patiently to return to the game.

Something that was typical of the Englishman’s time in his first job at Derby County was how he relied on his links to Stamford Bridge to bring some immense talents in on loan.

Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori starred in his only campaign at Pride Park, before all three were at Chelsea the next season.

Chelsea fans will likely be hoping that the same can happen in his return to the Championship, with a number of young talents waiting for their chance at regular minutes.

Tyrique George could star on loan from Chelsea under Frank Lampard

Tyrique George is one of those players who has impressed Enzo Maresca enough to make appearances this season.

Noni Madueke is also a big fan of the youngster, describing him as ‘skilful’ and a player to look out for.

Maresca was very impressed with George when he started in the Conference League earlier this month, and the fact they are already confirmed to be through in that competition suggests more opportunities will be coming.

However, this is not likely to be a regular thing, and getting constant minutes will be crucial to his development.

This could be on offer with Coventry, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League just two seasons ago.

George needs to prove himself ahead of Estevao Willian

The Cobham graduate will no doubt have an eye on the transfer activity being done by Chelsea, and the fact they have already confirmed a deal for Estevao Willian will likely worry him slightly.

There is so much excitement over the addition of the young Brazilian. Chelsea think they’ve ‘hit the jackpot’ with the signing of Estevao and fellow youngster Kendry Paez.

George will need to prove that he can be a star of the future at Stamford Bridge and fast, and his best chance at doing this could be on loan.

There may be no better opportunity than to do this under Lampard at Coventry, and it remains to be seen whether the club legend pushes for a deal to be done.
