Trevoh Chalobah has gone through more ups and downs than most players in the Chelsea squad.
There have been times when it’s looked like Trevoh Chalobah, 26, wouldn’t make it at Chelsea.
The defender is popular with supporters after coming through the Blues academy, but he was loaned out to Crystal Palace at the start of last season. However, in a remarkable turnaround, he was recalled by Chelsea in January, going on and becoming a key figure in Enzo Maresca’s side during the second half of the campaign.
Chalobah’s crowning moment was helping Chelsea clinch the 2025 Club World Cup this summer, thrashing Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final.
It’s obvious that Chalobah has had plenty of critics and obstacles in his career to date, but it now looks like he’s at the peak of his powers and comfortable at Stamford Bridge.
Joe Cole said loaning out Chalobah was a “crime” by Chelsea a year ago. Thankfully, everything has now come together for the talented central defender.

Frank Lampard was spot on about Trevoh Chalobah in 2023
Chalobah has played under several different Chelsea managers, including club legend Frank Lampard when he was the Blues’ interim boss at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
Back in May 2023, Lampard insisted Chalobah will keep improving. He said: ” was looking forward to working with Trev, because I didn’t get that chance when I was here before. In my short period here, you look at the individual performances and I’ve been very happy… He’s going to get a lot better.”
It turns out that Lampard was spot on because Chalobah has gone from strength to strength in the past couple of years.
The England international has proven he can shine on some of the biggest stages, forming a great partnership next to Levi Colwill in Chelsea’s backline. On paper, he’s got all the tools of a top centre-half with his physical and technical attributes.
It was all doom and gloom when Chalobah was left off Chelsea’s pre-season tour a year ago. The way he’s battled and silenced any critics has been admirable, though.

Chelsea changed their mind on Trevoh Chalobah
It’s been reported that Chelsea are not encouraging bids for Chalobah this summer because they’ve performed a U-turn and want to keep the academy graduate.
If the Blues were to offload the centre-back, we suspect there would be huge outrage from the club’s fanbase.
He’s earned his spot in Maresca’s squad the hard way!
On a side note, it’s so rewarding to see Cobham talents such as Chalobah, Colwill, and Reece James all shining in the current first-team squad.
