‘Gifted’ Chelsea player really needs to put in a big performance against West Ham

Enzo Maresca will likely already have a good idea of the Chelsea team he wants to name when they are next in action this weekend against West Ham.

The boss has had a number of injury boosts this week after he was forced to get creative when it came to his side last time out against Bournemouth.

Maresca handed Renato Veiga a first Premier League start on the South Coast, with a number of his midfield options not available for selection.

Enzo Fernandez was one of the players who was missing due to illness, however he was spotted back in training as early as Monday as he prepares for his return.

It is extremely likely that the World Cup winner returns to the starting side at the London Stadium, with him seeming very important to Maresca in his current setup.

Enzo Fernandez needs big performance vs West Ham

However, it is fair to say that Chelsea fans have been left wanting more from Fernandez considering the price they paid for him in January 2023.

Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Fernandez isn’t good enough to start for Chelsea, however he now has the chance to start proving some of the doubters wrong with a strong performance.

It will also not go unnoticed that the Blues picked up all three points with the Argentine not available, with others in the squad making their case to the manager.

Fernandez likely to partner Moises Caicedo

He will likely be joined by Moises Caicedo in the middle of the park, with the Ecuadorian donning the captain’s armband in his partner’s absence.

Fernandez will certainly be hoping at least for a more positive outing at the London Stadium than last time he played there. He missed a penalty in the first half as the Blues went on to lose 3-1.

He will not have that problem to worry about anymore, with Cole Palmer the clear penalty taker at the club at this stage.
