I saw ‘special’ Chelsea ace give Enzo Maresca a real headache after complete display against Morecambe

There were some good performances in Chelsea’s 5-0 win against Morecambe in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Chelsea smashed Derek Adams’ side to reach the fourth round of the competition, with Joao Felix and Tosin Adarabioyo starring.

Felix and Adarabioyo both scored two goals each, while Christopher Nkunku also managed to get his name on the scoresheet and could have had a brace himself if his first-half penalty was not saved.

Regarding Felix and Adarabioyo, though, Enzo Maresca would have been delighted with their performances. John Obi Mikel has been calling for Felix to play more.

Joao Felix attacked and defended well in Morecambe win

Many see Felix as a bit of a luxury player, a silky No.10 who has to be carried by the rest of the team at times.

However, against Morecambe, he was anything but. The 25-year-old still brought the flair, terrorising Adams’ defence.

To go with his two goals, Felix also registered one key pass and completed both of the dribbles he attempted.

Felix did his work off the ball as well, though. For example, the Portuguese won four ground duels and made two tackles. He finished the game with a Sofascore rating of 9.5, showing how complete his performance was.

Chelsea fans noticed Felix’s work off the ball and were quick to praise him for it.

Felix has only made three starts in the Premier League this season but after displays like his latest, that number needs to increase. Cole Palmer, though, is Chelsea’s first-choice No.10, meaning that trying to fit Felix into the team is a headache for Maresca, more so now after yesterday.

What Joao Felix’s former teammate Alvaro Morata has said about him

Things did not quite work out for Felix at Atletico Madrid, hence his move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

However, during his time there, he did show his quality now and again. When the Portugal international did, it was a sight to behold.

His former teammate and ex-Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata was a huge fan of his talent.

Speaking about Felix after one of his performances a few years ago, Morata said (via Goal): “The truth is that Joao has a special talent.”

If given the chance by Maresca, Felix now needs to show in the Premier League that he is a special player.
