Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have been heavily criticised for a lot of the transfers that Chelsea have made under their ownership.
It is not really a shock, as Chelsea have paid enormous fees for the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Blues have done that, yet finished 12th in the 2022/23 season and missed out on Champions League qualification again the following year.
Perhaps, then, Boehly and Clearlake do deserve the criticism that has come their way. However, they could be about to do arguably the best piece of business this summer and maybe since their arrival in west London.

Chelsea in talks to sign Victor Osimhen
Chelsea could have the opportunity to sign one of the top strikers in Europe in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and without having to pay a ridiculous amount of money, or at least not in this transfer window.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Napoli and Chelsea are currently in discussions over a deal that would see Romelu Lukaku and Osimhen swap clubs.
The same outlet also claims that while Lukaku would be joining Napoli on a permanent deal, Osimhen would be expected to sign for Chelsea on loan with an option to buy.
That would be an incredible deal for the Blues, given that they are trying to offload the Belgian and bring in a new striker at the same time.
Fabrizio Romano recently suggested that Napoli could be open to letting Osimhen join Chelsea in a deal that would see Lukaku head in the opposite direction, and that now looks to be the case.
Chelsea’s best piece of business under Todd Boehly so far
It is quite clear that Cole Palmer has been the best signing Chelsea have made under Boehly and Clearlake.
His impact at Stamford Bridge last season was incredible, with the 22-year-old managing to record 40 goal contributions in 45 appearances for Chelsea.
Osimhen on an initial loan, though, could easily rival that. After all, this is a high-calibre forward who scored 31 goals back in the 2022/23 campaign and led Napoli to the Serie A title.
If Chelsea go on to land the Nigerian and he ends up firing them back into the top four and the Champions League, then you would perhaps be looking at the best and most influential signing of the Todd Boehly era so far.
