Chelsea are expected to conduct a fair bit of their transfer business before this summer’s Club World Cup as they look to get a step ahead for next season.

It has previously been reported that the Blues are planning to ‘go big’ this summer, no matter what variation of European football they qualify for next season.

Champions League football is the aim as far as Enzo Maresca is concerned, however the Blues face five cup finals from now until the end of the season in order to achieve this.

Strain will continue to be put on a Chelsea defence whose record is significantly better than what was boasted under Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite their improved numbers, it has been claimed that the Blues are keen on bringing a new centre-back in at the end of the season, with Dean Huijsen one of the names on their list.

Levi Colwill should be really worried after Chelsea become favourites to sign Dean Huijsen

Recent reports have claimed that Chelsea are now the favourites to sign Huijsen this summer, despite interest from top clubs such as Real Madrid and Liverpool.

The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising centre-backs in the game after his excellent first Premier League season with Bournemouth.

His playstyle would not make him a direct replacement for Wesley Fofana, who is unfortunately too unreliable based on his fitness since the move to Stamford Bridge.

In fact, his profile is far more similar to that of Levi Colwill, with the majority of his minutes coming on the left of the centre-back pairing.

It is at this point unclear if Maresca would consider playing the duo together at the back, but given the excitement around the potential addition of the Spain international, Colwill should be worried about his prospects at the club he has spent a large portion of his life a part of.

Levi Colwill and Dean Huijsen’s stats compared

When looking at the numbers of both in the Premier League, there is very little to choose from between the two players based on this season, although the Chelsea man has considerably more minutes under his belt.

The idea of both playing together at the back is seriously exciting, however risks the Blues missing out on a player who can offer experience that this side desperately needs.

This can come from someone like Marc Guehi, who is also very high on Chelsea’s shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window.
