It has become clear that despite more than a billion pounds has been spent on the squad, Chelsea are missing key profiles to complete their squad.

Todd Boehly has been criticised for the project undertaken at Stamford Bridge, with a large amount of money being spent on players who have not even made their debut for the club yet.

There is excitement over the arrival of Estevao, however some are unlikely to ever feature for the first team.

Joe Cole recently issued a passionate statement pleading for Chelsea to add experience to their squad. The oldest player to feature for the Blues this season has been 27.

Chelsea to ‘go big’ for new goalkeeper, centre-back and striker this summer

Despite a strong start to the season for Nicolas Jackson in front of goal, he suffered a run of eight games without a goal before picking up an injury that is set to keep him out until April.

John Obi Mikel has repeatedly criticised Jackson as the number nine at Stamford Bridge, with him a big advocate for the signing of Victor Osimhen.

Whether the Napoli loanee is the man selected is another story, however Simon Phillips has claimed striker is one of the positions Chelsea are prepared to ‘go big’ for in the upcoming transfer window.

He also stated that the Blues are going to be looking at a new goalkeeper, as well as a centre-back to revamp their squad.

He said on his Substack: “This will be the sixth transfer window under this ownership, and there is an acceptance that they still need to strengthen in at least three more positions and potentially even more.

“Fans have been universally calling for the spine of the team to be addressed, and come the summer, we can only hope it has been.

“Our top SPTC source has heard this weekend that Chelsea are ‘going big’ for a new goalkeeper, centre back, and a striker in the summer transfer window. He also mentions other positions such as a new full back, but we have no definitive news on that just yet.”

Chelsea targeting Caoimhin Kelleher as new goalkeeper

One position the Blues are really struggling in right now is goalkeeper. The Blues have both Filip Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez as first team options right now.

Maresca announced Jorgensen as his number one, although his major error against Aston Villa cost them dearly at the weekend.

In their hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, Phillips went on to say that Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher remains a serious candidate to be signed.

He said: “For the goalkeeper, names are being put together still up until June, and new names will enter the fray too. The main name we keep hearing there though is still Caoimhín Kelleher.”

Kelleher has been brilliant in deputising for Alisson at Anfield. Steve McManaman described him as ‘outstanding’ to TNT Sports after a Champions League outing earlier this season.

The Blues have a lot of faith in the future of Mike Penders, however need an immediate solution to their goalkeeping woes. There doesn’t look to be a better option out there than Kelleher right now.
