Mauricio Pochettino has said something at his latest press conference which is clearly just wrong

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said some very interesting things in his pre-match press conference yesterday.

Mauricio Pochettino was speaking in the build-up to Chelsea‘s FA Cup fourth round replay against Aston Villa tonight and tried to deny something Ben Chilwell recently said.

What did Ben Chilwell say?

Following Chelsea’s 4-2 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, Chilwell claimed that the Blues lost the game because Gary O’Neil’s side wanted the three points more.

“I think they probably showed that they wanted it more,” the left-back told Sky Sports after the match.

Yet Pochettino has come out since and said that Chilwell did not actually say those very words.

“When you listen to Chilwell, he didn’t say that,” the Chelsea manager was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “He said we didn’t win the duels, the 50-50s they won.”

Puzzling.

There has been a lot of fallout from Chelsea’s defeat to Wolves, but hopefully the Blues can move on from it tonight.

If they can beat Villa, it will ease a bit of the pressure on Pochettino and the team, and there is a lot on the former right now.

In fact, according to one of journalist Simon Phillips’ sources, the Argentine could actually be sacked if Chelsea lose this fixture.

The club will want to get to the end of the campaign with their manager at the helm, but at this point you could not blame them for getting rid of Pochettino.

A lot may now be riding on this FA Cup game, but their main concern will be with what has happened in the league this season. Chelsea are currently in the bottom half of the table, and that is not good enough when you look at the squad Pochettino has.
