Many have missed the bigger picture with Maxence Lacroix potentially joining Chelsea, and the knock-on effect it could have on Trevoh Chalobah’s future.

Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix is edging closer to a potential move to Chelsea, with the Frenchman keen on joining up with Xabi Alonso.

The 26-year-old’s arrival is expected to accelerate the departure of Trevoh Chalobah, who is currently away with England at the World Cup.

Despite being one of the more consistent performers for Chelsea last season, the Cobham graduate is not considered untouchable. Serie A side Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas, has submitted an initial bid for Chalobah to capitalise on Chelsea’s need for defensive outgoings.

Maxence Lacroix and Trevoh Chalobah’s close relationship

One thing that your average Chelsea fan may not realise is the fact that Trevoh Chalobah and Maxence Lacroix have a really close relationship from their time together at Crystal Palace.

Here is what Lacroix had to say during their time at Selhurst Park.

“It’s a good relationship because we are like brothers. And when you are good off the pitch, on the pitch, it will be the same.

“This is why I think we have a good connection, I want to say. Of course, we have qualities. We have Trevoh who was playing for Chelsea. Marc’s playing in England [national team]. So, it’s always easier to start with this type of player.

“When you know it’s your brother [alongside you in the team] you want to do always more because it’s different. I think when it’s your brother, you want to protect him.

“You want to give more. And like with Marc, you want to be with him because he’s a good guy. He’s a top player, but he’s also a top guy.

“It’s like a family, you know? And this is why this team is good and the people like this team, because we are like a family and everyone wants the best for one another.”

It’s a sign that Chelsea should reconsider their Chalobah stance

Currently, Chelsea see Chalobah as a sellable asset, and would entertain his next at the right price.

Of course, we aren’t saying that Chalobah should be untouchable, but there are players like Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana, who are way more sellable than the Englishman.

During Chalobah’s loan spell at Crystal Palace, the two formed a great partnership.

Chelsea bang on about how they want proven Premier League experience, so they could instantly unlock Lacroix by retaining a Premier League-ready, homegrown partner.

Why go chasing a new combination when there’s one right in front of you.
