One decision Todd Boehly made at Chelsea in January now looks really strange

The January transfer window was one of little drama as far as Chelsea were concerned this time around.

Paling in comparison to the club-record bid for Enzo Fernandez that went through just minutes before February came around a year ago, this year the top story was if Fulham were going to complete the loan signing of Armando Broja.

The striker did move down the road in West London, however is yet to find the net or any regular minutes with his new side.

Another player who moved on was Andrey Santos, after he was recalled from his original loan spell at Nottingham Forest after not making a league start for the Premier League side.

The Blues waited for the majority of January to decide what was best to do with a player many at the club rate extremely highly, knowing they can’t afford for a whole season to go to waste.

They eventually decided a move to Strasbourg was the best port of call, given the club’s obvious links with the Ligue 1 side.

As we enter March though, the Brazilian has just 33 minutes of football under his belt for his new side, and not getting off the bench in his last two outings.

While it may be unrealistic for a young midfielder like Santos to walk straight into the starting side of a top-flight side, what is currently going on at Stamford Bridge is what makes it even more confusing.

Mauricio Pochettino recently came out and said that he was struggling to allow either of Enzo Fernandez or Moises Caicedo to rest at any point.

While the Blues have been hit with injury problems to the likes of Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, it makes the decision to loan out a promising midfielder who can play that role even more baffling.

Chelsea fans will be praying that Santos gets some regular football under his belt soon, so he can begin to make an impact on the first team sometime soon.
