Predicting Chelsea’s six tough fixtures in April, includes return to Wembley for semi-final

We’re now entering the business end of the season. For Chelsea, they’ve got six tough games to navigate their way through in the month of April to try set themselves up nicely for May.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side play five of their remaining 10 Premier League matches this month. Plus, there’s an FA Cup semi-final trip to Wembley Stadium thrown in there.

The Blues desperately need to try accumulate more league points to climb the division. As it stands, they’re only 11th in the table but still find themselves within touching distance of the European positions if they find some form.

Chelsea’s run in the FA Cup is their final chance to try win a trophy during Pochettino’s first season in the dugout.

The Chelsea Chronicle has previewed and predicted the Blues’ six matches in April.

Manchester United (Home) – 4 April

First of all, the Blues begin this month’s run on Thursday night when they host Manchester United in a league fixture.

Chelsea haven’t beaten United in the league since 2017, so we’re a bit sceptical going into the latest installment.

The truth is both teams were really poor in their respective matches after the international break, so we don’t see much to separate them in a couple of days time.

TCC’s prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Man United

Sheffield United (Away) – 7 April

We won’t say it with too much conviction, but we expect Chelsea to win away against a side bottom of the division who’re destined for relegation unless something miraculous happens.

It was a 2-0 success for the Blues in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge.

We think Pochettino’s side will take three points on the road during their trip to Sheffield.

TCC’s prediction: Sheffield United 1-3 Chelsea

Everton (Home) – 15 April

Chelsea host an Everton side mid-April that haven’t won in the league during 2024. Of course, that record may be gone by the time this comes around.

The Merseyside outfit won the first fixture between the clubs 2-0 back in December.

We think Pochettino’s side can exact some revenge this time, though.

TCC’s prediction: Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Manchester City (Wembley) – 20 April

This is the fixture every Chelsea fan will be most nervous and excited for.

The good news is they’re one win away from another cup final. The bad news is that they’ve got to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the semis to get there.

It’s been 4-4 and 1-1 in the two Premier League meetings this campaign, so Chelsea do generally find a way to raise their level.

Unfortunately, the Blues curse on recent trips to Wembley Stadium means we’ve begrudgingly predicted a Man City victory.

TCC’s prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Chelsea

Arsenal (Away) – 23 April

Chelsea will need the league points when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to play rivals Arsenal. However, the Gunners will be desperate themselves to win because they’re in the thick of a fantastic title race.

Arsenal have beaten the Blues six times in the last eight meetings across all competitions.

Unfortunately, Mikel Arteta’s men are on a different level right now.

TCC’s Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea

Aston Villa (Away) – 27 April

We wrap up April with a trip to Villa Park, which was a fortress earlier in the season.

Chelsea did lose 1-0 to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge previously this season, but we’re going to go with a high-scoring draw this time.

It’s a common trend lately that the Blues score a lot but also concede plenty.

TCC’s Prediction: Aston Villa 2-2 Chelsea
