Chelsea signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig this summer could have some serious consequences later down the line.

Right now, Chelsea fans will be excited amid all of the links with the 22-year-old. It has been reported that Simons’ camp have already held talks with Chelsea over a move.

Simons is a talented footballer with a lot of potential. But the same can be said about several other youngsters currently at Stamford Bridge.

For one of them, Simons’ arrival would be really bad news and could give him a decision to make in the near future.

Xavi Simons signing would put Kendry Paez’s future at risk

With all of the signings that Chelsea have made and the speculation surrounding Simons, it is easy to forget about Kendry Paez.

However, the 18-year-old is also technically a new signing with his transfer to Chelsea having only gone through this summer.

Yet you already have to fear for his future at the club as the Club World Cup winners pursue Simons. They are very similar attackers, able to play behind the striker and in other positions across the frontline.

Simons is four years older than Paez, but he is still only 22. It means that the Dutchman could be at Chelsea for a while if the Blues do go on to sign him.

Ultimately, Simons could limit the amount of opportunities Paez gets at Chelsea. The Ecuadorian already has Cole Palmer in his way, with the former Manchester City man being the team’s first-choice No.10.

The potential arrival of Simons would only complicate things for him. Simons’ favourite position is No.10, so you would expect to see him there at times next season should he end up at Stamford Bridge. As for Paez, he is set to leave Chelsea temporarily.

Chelsea’s current plans for Kendry Paez

For now, the plan is for Chelsea to send Paez to Strasbourg, where Mike Penders and Mamadou Sarr will also be playing their football next season.

It will be a loan move with a view of the young Ecuador international eventually returning to west London. But if Paez does well away from Chelsea and they keep investing in attackers, it would not be a shock to see the club flip him for some profit in a future transfer window.

Writing for ESPN, South American football expert Tim Vickery has described Paez as a “quality product” from Independiente del Valle. When Chelsea fans get to see that quality on the Stamford Bridge pitch remains a mystery, though.
