RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons has emerged as a new target for Chelsea, according to recent transfer rumours.

The Blues have already strengthened their attacking options this summer with the additions of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens. However, it looks like they may not be done quite yet.

Xavi Simons, 22, is an exciting attacking midfielder tipped for a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

It was claimed last week that the agents of Simons spoke with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham about a possible transfer. The positive news is that Simons would rather join Chelsea over Arsenal.

Chelsea talks with Xavi Simons camp on Monday

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg via X, more discussions took place on Monday evening (yesterday) between Chelsea and the Simons camp.

It is explained that the Blues are ‘concretely’ pursuing the signing as they focus on reaching a verbal agreement.

Apparently, Leipzig are prepared to sell their creative playmaker, demanding a big €70m (£60m) fee, but Chelsea want to pay less. There are alternative suitors waiting to pounce if the clubs can’t come to an agreement.

Back in April, Simons was mooted as a Chelsea target for 2025. It will be interesting to see if this deal gets pushed over the line as the speculation continues to grow louder and louder.

The versatility of Xavi Simons

Perhaps the biggest tick that Chelsea can put by Simons is his extreme versatility, along with his youth and potential.

The Netherlands international has proven during his career so far he can succeed in multiple different roles, which could make him a really smart addition to Enzo Maresca’s squad next term.

On paper, Simons looks like ideal competition for Chelsea on the left wing and the No.10 position. He could complete a really exciting set of forward options at the club going into the 2025/26 campaign.
