Ranking all 10 of Chelsea’s centre-backs after Trevoh Chalobah bid

There should be a lot of movement in the centre-back position at Chelsea this summer, with Trevoh Chalobah being one name who could depart.

Chalobah is attracting interest from Italy, but he is not the only centre-half who could leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea currently have 10 central defenders and could add another one amid interest in Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix, which is way too many.

Colwill and Acheampong are 'untouchable'.

Whatever the case, here is how The Chelsea Chronicle has ranked all 10 of Chelsea’s centre-back options:

10. Aaron Anselmino

Aaron Anselmino has only played one game for Chelsea, so it is hard to judge the Argentine. His loan spell at Borussia Dortmund was going well until the Blues decided to cut it short and send him to Strasbourg.

9. Mamadou Sarr

Mamadou Sarr was also out on loan last season but was recalled to Chelsea and barely played. Sarr made a costly mistake against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and was barely seen after that. He still looks very raw.

8. Benoit Badiashile

On paper, Benoit Badiashile is a centre-back most managers would love. He can play on the left, is strong and capable of passing the ball out of defence.

However, the Frenchman is constantly injured and prone to making errors at the back.

7. Axel Disasi

Axel Disasi is not wanted at Chelsea, but after a successful loan spell at West Ham United, the 28-year-old looks like a better option than Badiashile, Sarr and Anselmino.

6. Tosin Adarabioyo

Tosin Adarabioyo was not able to build on a positive 2024/25 campaign. He only made eight starts in the Premier League last season and really struggled one-v-one at times.

5. Josh Acheampong

Chelsea fans will feel that Josh Acheampong should be much higher, and the England Under-21 international probably would have been had he played more games.

Acheampong is strong, fast and excellent on the ball. He has a huge future at Chelsea.

4. Wesley Fofana

Wesley Fofana was poor last season and has had a lot of injuries at Chelsea. However, in the games that the former Leicester City star did manage to play in previous campaigns, he was usually quite solid for the Blues.

3. Trevoh Chalobah

According to Sky in Italy via Sky Sports, Como have made a bid for Chalobah. Chalobah was Chelsea’s most consistent centre-half last season, but that will not stop the club from selling him.

The 26-year-old is an easy way for Chelsea to make pure profit.

2. Jorrel Hato

Jorrel Hato started the 2025/26 campaign slowly but really came alive in the second half of it. Technically, the Dutchman is superb.

He is excellent on the ball and reads the game well. Hato may have to play at left-back going forward after Marc Cucurella’s departure, but right now he is Xabi Alonso’s second-best centre-back option.

1. Levi Colwill

There is no debating this one. Levi Colwill is Chelsea’s best centre-back and proved that in the few games he played last term after returning from injury. Hopefully he can remain fit now.
