Chelsea fans were left pretty frustrated at one of the transfer stories that extended throughout the majority of the summer window.

The club seemed insistent to get rid of Conor Gallagher after it emerged that he was not interested in signing the contract they were offering him.

Supporters were not happy with the club’s treatment of Gallagher, however it looked pretty clear he was going to play far less of a role this season if he stayed at Stamford Bridge.

New manager Enzo Maresca’s system seems to suit players who are far more comfortable on the ball, with the England international’s strengths lying in winning the ball back for his side in the middle of the park.

However, it looks like the new-look Chelsea seem to not be struggling in that department anyway.

Chelsea winning the ball in midfield more than their rivals without Gallagher

A stat from Mozo Football shows that the Blues have won the ball back more in the midfield than any of Liverpool, Manchester United or Arsenal in their opening two games of the season.

Both games have seen both Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo start together, with the aim being that the £200m+ midfield can gel and become one of the best in the league this season.

Enzo Maresca unlocked Cole Palmer in the middle

Maresca seemed to crack the code in the second game of the season against Wolves, when he played Cole Palmer in a more central role ahead of the midfield duo.

Here, was able to let his creative side show, providing three assists for Noni Madueke who was brought in to play on the right of attack.

Chelsea will be hoping and praying that the recent injury to Romeo Lavia is not a serious one, after he made such a strong start to the new campaign in both pre-season and the league opener.

The Belgian missed nearly all of his first season at the club through injury, and will be hoping for far better fortunes this time around.
