For the second season in a row, Chelsea will not be taking part in Europe’s elite competition.

While the Blues made it to the Conference League for this campaign, it will be another year without Champions League football at Stamford Bridge.

With ambitions of being back amongst Europe’s elite as soon as next season, the players they should look to sign from here onwards should reflect that.

There are a plethora of top players involved in action as the competition starts this week. The Chelsea Chronicle have picked out three players who should be watched closely by the Blues.

Viktor Gyokeres

While all of Chelsea’s attention as far as a new striker goes turned to Victor Osimhen over the summer, some were left wondering why another striker wasn’t at the top of their list.

Viktor Gyokeres was on fire last season, and has carried that record onto this season. He has eight goals and an assist in the first five games of the league season.

Chelsea fans are in agreement the Sweden international is who they should sign if they do want to strengthen their options up top.

His Champions League campaign gets underway tonight as Sporting Lisbon take on Lille at home.

Chelsea held a strong interest in signing Benjamin Sesko earlier in the summer, however were deterred when he signed a new contract with RB Leipzig.

While the Slovenian is yet to find the net in the league this season, he will be looking to open his European account for the season with a trip to Atletico Madrid.

The striker will no doubt return to the list if the Blues want to add a new addition to their side either in January or at the end of the season, although will likely find it difficult when up against the likes of Arsenal for his signature.

Jamal Musiala

After a meteoric rise to the top of the game in European football, Jamal Musiala is looking to further establish himself as one of the best in the world in the Champions League this season.

Chelsea have reportedly been fans of his ever since he left the club originally, although very few would have seen what was coming for him.

Reports have refused to go away that he could be on the move at the end of this season, and the Blues would love to be involved in the conversation of potentially signing him.

Musiala and Bayern Munich get their campaign underway when they host Dinamo Zagreb tonight.
