There is set to be a huge transfer battle for Ipswich Town striker and Chelsea target Liam Delap this summer.
Liam Delap is said to be “intrigued” by Chelsea’s project, but the Blues are not the only club who are interested in him.
Manchester United are one other side who have the 22-year-old on their radar, so a transfer tussle between the two Premier League giants could ensue.
As of now, though, Chelsea look to be the frontrunners for his signature, so here are three reasons why Delap should choose the Blues.

Cole Palmer partnership
According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are leading the race for Delap over United, and the Blues landing him could see Enzo Maresca create a deadly partnership consisting of the Ipswich star and Cole Palmer.
It is a partnership that Delap would surely love to form, with Palmer being one of the most creative players in the division.
In fact, Delap and Palmer have already teamed up at youth level during their days at Manchester City’s academy and for the England U21s.

Enzo Maresca reunion
Just as he has with Palmer, Delap has also worked with Maresca at City. And the England U21 international was exceptional under him.
In total, Delap scored 27 goals in just 22 appearances. Again, it was at youth level, but Maresca clearly knows how to get the best out of the forward.
With Nicolas Jackson currently unavailable because of injury, Maresca could really do with his former player right now.
Chelsea likely to be in Europe
After a very bright start to the season that saw Chelsea climb to second at one stage, there is now a good chance that they miss out on Champions League qualification.
Following their 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last Friday, Maresca’s side have now dropped to sixth in the table.

| 1 | 25 | 18 | 6 | 1 | 60 | 24 | 36 | 60 | |
| 2 | 25 | 15 | 8 | 2 | 51 | 22 | 29 | 53 | |
| 3 | 25 | 14 | 5 | 6 | 41 | 29 | 12 | 47 | |

| 10 | 25 | 9 | 10 | 6 | 38 | 38 | 0 | 37 |
Finish there, though, and they will at least qualify for the Europa League or Conference League, depending on what happens in the FA Cup final. And with the Blues having a fantastic opportunity to win the latter this season, that is also another route into Europe’s second tier competition.
With United 15th in the table, they look set to miss out on European qualification altogether unless they can win the FA Cup again or the Europa League.
If Chelsea qualify for Europe next season and United do not, then joining the Blues really should be a no-brainer for Delap.
