Chelsea’s decision to, in effect, sell their women’s team and a couple of hotels to themselves was smart.
They avoided breaching any PSR rules and remain in a position to spend big in the transfer window as a result.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro will be the club’s next big-money recruits. Pedro has opted to join Chelsea despite interest from Newcastle United.
However, because of this loophole that Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have been able to discover, the Blues may now miss out on one of their other targets as his club prepare to exploit it as well.

Aston Villa ready to copy Chelsea trick in move that could keep Morgan Rogers at the club
Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers is another attacker who is thought to be on Chelsea‘s radar.
Earlier this month, one journalist reported that Chelsea had been in contact with Rogers’ agents over a potential move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
He will not come cheap, with it being claimed that Villa could demand £90m for Rogers, but that is if they need to sell him. Because of Boehly and Eghbali’s trick, they may not actually need to think about selling the attacking midfielder this summer.
According to The Telegraph, just as Chelsea have done, Villa could sell a 10% stake of their women’s team to an outside investor and the other 90% to the club’s parent company.
It would help them to comply with PSR regulations and potentially keep Rogers off the market. The accounting deadline is on June 30, but the sale of an asset can still be included in the 2024/25 accounts as long as a sale has been agreed in principle, The Telegraph states.

Chelsea’s alternatives to Morgan Rogers
Chelsea do have other options they can turn to if Villa are not forced to sell Rogers this summer.
For example, the Conference League winners could still sign West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea have an interest in Kudus, so a move should not be ruled out. Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has also been linked with a switch to west London.
