Chelsea kicked off their tour of the United States with an underwhelming 2-2 draw against Wrexham over in the United States.

Goals from Christopher Nkunku and Lesley Ugochukwu somewhat spared Chelsea’s blushes, however there were no doubt some impressive performances along the way.

Supporters were pleased with what they saw from Marc Guiu up front, while some experienced first team stars showed their quality too.

While most players only got 45 minutes to show what they can do, one player who started actually saw out the entire 90 minutes.

Carney Chukwuemeka achieved this, however it is fair to say will have wanted to put on a better performance against the lower-league opposition.

Carney Chukwuemeka fails to impress for Chelsea

Featuring in a number 8 role that his skillset looks perfectly suited for, it was a shame that he wasn’t able to have more of an impact last night.

Teammate Marcus Bettinelli has previously described him as ‘unbelievable’, with there being plenty of promise surrounding the England youngster.

However, there was talk earlier this summer that he could be on the move, and that there was a £40m release clause in Chukwuemeka’s Chelsea contract.

While any reports of that have seemed to die down, he will no doubt need to make more of an impression during the remaining pre-season games this summer.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall misses friendly through injury

There will be serious competition for places in the middle of the park this season. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall didn’t even feature last night due to a small injury.

Ugochukwu will look to build on his player of the match performance last night as he looks to prove that his immediate future should be at Stamford Bridge rather than on loan.

Andrey Santos also featured in midfield, however he is already reportedly set to move to Strasbourg on loan for the second season in a row in order to guarantee him minutes.
