The win against their rivals was a rare clean sheet for Chelsea in 2025, with a number of their defensive players stepping up to the plate.

Robert Sanchez answered his critics with a huge save in the final moments, and there was a notably impressive display from Trevoh Chalobah at the heart of defence.

Many would not have expected the Cobham graduate to start the game against Spurs, however Chalobah impressed greatly in possession as well as keeping out the opposition.

Trevoh Chalobah has chance to save Chelsea career after Wesley Fofana announcement

There would have been a belief that Wesley Fofana may have started the game, although he was not spotted with the first team squad that travelled and it soon emerged that he had suffered another injury.

A statement on Chelsea’s official website confirmed that the defender had undergone surgery on a hamstring problem that has brought his season to an end.

Someone is going to have to step up and fill the void of the Frenchman for the rest of the season, and after starting alongside Levi Colwill on Thursday it looks as it will be Chalobah who is handed that responsibility.

There is a real chance for the Englishman to make an impression on Enzo Maresca in the final few weeks of the season, with that potentially opening up a chance for him to save his Chelsea career.

Trevoh Chalobah’s Chelsea status

Despite being recalled from his loan at Crystal Palace in January, the future at this stage does not look too bright for Chalobah at Stamford Bridge.

The club made great efforts to get rid of him on a permanent basis during the summer, going to the extent of dropping Chalobah from the pre-season tour.

Even the player himself reportedly accepts that his future is bleak, however the perfect opportunity has cropped up for him to save his career at the club he clearly loves.

His teammates are big fans of his, proven instantly when he returned to the club. Noni Madueke said Chalobah was ‘unbelievable’ following his first game back against Wolves.
