After injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, Chelsea wanted to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in January.
In the end, they failed to, but there is still a possibility of the Blues landing Marc Guehi in the summer.
While London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the centre-back, it is being reported that Chelsea are convinced that Guehi would pick them out of the two clubs.
The 24-year-old is not the only centre-half who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, though.

How Marc Guehi and Dean Huijsen compare this season
As well as Guehi, Chelsea are also thought to be interested in Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen.
It has been claimed that Chelsea want Huijsen, who has a £50m release clause in his contract. And after how the 19-year-old has performed this campaign, it is not hard to see why. Despite this being his first season in England, he has arguably done better than Guehi.
Presently, Huijsen is making more tackles, more interceptions and more clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League than Guehi.
In possession, the Spain U21 international is also making more progressive passes and more progressive carries.
| Player | Tackles | Interceptions | Clearances | Blocks | Progressive passes | Progressive carries |
| Dean Huijsen | 1.67 | 2.10 | 6.01 | 1.88 | 4.49 | 1.59 |
| Marc Guehi | 1.57 | 0.61 | 4.83 | 1.91 | 3.91 | 0.43 |
Huijsen looks like the real deal. He is proving to be not only a good defender, but also a good footballer. Yet going into the summer, Guehi should still be Chelsea’s priority out of the two.

Chelsea need Marc Guehi’s experience and leadership
Huijsen may be outshining Guehi in several areas this season and perhaps has the potential to surpass the Palace star.
But what Guehi has over him right now is experience and leadership, two things this Chelsea squad is severely lacking.
It is a very young group that Enzo Maresca is working with, and that is not going to change if the Blues keep on buying players of Huijsen’s age group.
There needs to be a balance, something Guehi can help bring to Stamford Bridge. At 24, Guehi is five years Huijsen’s senior, while he is also an England international who has been captaining his club this term.
In total, Guehi has been capped on 22 occasions for the Three Lions, which includes appearances at Euro 2024, and played 121 times in the Premier League. While Huijsen would not be a terrible signing for Chelsea, Guehi looks like he would be perfect for the Blues.
