On Monday afternoon, it emerged that Chelsea are interested in signing Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion.

It is now being reported that the Blues are woking on signing Jordan Henderson from Brentford.

If it happens, Xabi Alonso and new Chelsea addition Morgan Rogers are going to be delighted.

Morgan Rogers says Jordan Henderson is the ‘best guy’ he’s come across in football

Alonso wants to add more experience and strong characters to his squad. It is why Chelsea wanted to sign Granit Xhaka.

Henderson ticks those boxes, with Rogers claiming that he is the “best guy” he has met in the game.

Speaking about Henderson on Lions’ Den last month, the attacking midfielder said: “The best guy I’ve ever come across in football. If people did a blind ranking of people they want at the camp beforehand, he’d be in everyone’s top five.”

Henderson’s contract at Brentford expires next year, but it is thought that the Bees are willing to let him leave on a free transfer this summer.

If Chelsea manage to snap up the England veteran, again, Alonso is going to be very pleased with this particular piece of business.

Yes, Henderson will bring experience and leadership, but he will also be an extra body in midfield, which Chelsea arguably need. The Blues have sold Andrey Santos to Manchester United, while Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo could not stay fit last season.

Simply put, Chelsea are lacking reliable options in the middle of the park presently.

Jordan Henderson an ideal alternative to Granit Xhaka

There are a lot of similarities between Henderson and Xhaka. They are both big dressing room figures who know the Premier League inside out, but as well as that, their playing styles are practically identical.

They are midfielders who retain possession and dictate the tempo of games. In his younger days, Henderson was also quite an energetic midfielder who was great at harrying the opposition and pressing.

Now 36, Chelsea fans will probably not see too much of that at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming campaign, but he could still be a shrewd addition to their squad.
