Some may actually be surprised at the lack of big-name transfers to have taken place regarding Chelsea so far this month.

12 months ago they used the January transfer window to completely change their squad in the midst of a dire campaign. Todd Boehly has not been afraid to spend big.

The signings of the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk brought a lot of excitement to the fanbase, however things did not turn out as planned for the remainder of the campaign.

As of now, there has been just one confirmed outgoing on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

Alex Matos had impressed Mauricio Pochettino in his first few months at Stamford Bridge, and even saw himself pick up his debut for the club in the Premier League.

He will now play the rest of the season at Huddersfield Town, and it didn’t take long for Chelsea fans to see him in action for the first time yesterday.

Matos already impressing on loan

He lined up in midfield against Manchester City, and despite the dominant result for the current holders, the youngster impressed on his debut for the Championship side.

Some Huddersfield supporters seemed to be instantly impressed by the Blues loanee, with one taking to Twitter and saying: “Can we just become Chelsea’s feeder club please. This Matos looks unreal.”

With the amount of excitement that surrounds the former Norwich City man at Stamford Bridge, a strong spell with a competitive side in the top two divisions of England can be really promising.

The Blues can feel some safety in the fact that they have selected Huddersfield as his location too, with them already reaping the rewards of a Levi Colwill loan there previously.

Whether Boehly always gets things right or not, it can certainly said that he is off to a good start in 2024.
