Confirmed: £80k-a-week Chelsea player returns to Thursday training after injury

Andreas Christensen’s return to training today has been confirmed by Chelsea.

The Blues announced on their official website that the £80,000-a-week defender was back training with the squad on Thursday ahead of the weekend’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.

It is explained the 25-year-old is back with the group after suffering with a back problem.

In addition, Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi were back training after returning negative Covid-19 tests.

Christensen’s availability during a hectic festive schedule should be a relief to manager Thomas Tuchel, who may have the option to rotate his back three a little more freely.

Chelsea need to tie down Christensen

With a lot of uncertainty around the future of several Chelsea centre-halves, Christensen’s contract situation needs to be resolved.

The Denmark international, along with several teammates, is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

However, there is positive news surrounding the academy graduate.

It was reported earlier this month that Chelsea have everything in place for the ball-playing centre-back to sign a new deal beyond the summer and are just waiting for him to sign.

He can reflect on a superb 2021 for himself where his game has massively improved. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him grow into a senior figure in the Blues defence if he stays, too.
