Graham Potter says Chelsea player has suffered new injury in training, he’s doubtful vs West Ham

Graham Potter has confirmed that Raheem Sterling has suffered a fresh injury problem and is a doubt to play tomorrow for Chelsea against West Ham.

The Blues make the short trip across London on Saturday afternoon to play West Ham in the Premier League.

For Sterling, it’s been quite a frustrating 2023 so far.

The 28-year-old attacker missed a few games in January because of a hamstring problem, but he did make his return last week with a substitute performance against Fulham.

Unfortunately, Chelsea’s winger has picked up a new issue in the build up to the West Ham fixture.

Potter shared on Friday that Sterling has taken a hit to his knee in training, which he describes as a “little setback”.

Therefore, the England star is an injury doubt for Chelsea going into this weekend’s London derby.

“We had a little setback with Raheem. He had a kick in training so we’re assessing him. He’s probably doubtful for tomorrow I’d say. He just got a kick in training on the side of his knee,” Potter said in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the club’s The 5th Stand app (1:37pm, 10 February).

It doesn’t sound like Sterling’s latest injury concern is too severe, but the stop-start nature of this season must be extremely frustrating for the player.

Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier recently said Sterling is one of the best players he’s ever played alongside, but Chelsea fans are still waiting to see the very best version of him.

The Blues wide man has six goals in 23 Blues appearances so far this campaign.

With more attacking talent recruited by the club in the January window, Sterling must be desperate to get back on the pitch to nail down a spot in Potter’s best XI.
