'He got hit on the nerve': Tuchel gives injury news on two Chelsea players after Wolves draw

Thomas Tuchel has delivered an injury update on two Chelsea players after today’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea slipped up yet again in the league this week by drawing 0-0 away to Wolves on Sunday afternoon. This comes after Thursday night’s 1-1 draw against Everton, too.

The Blues were far from their best in the absence of some important players at the weekend. Christian Pulisic missed arguably his team’s best chance in the second half when his effort was denied by opposition goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Chelsea boss Tuchel shared in his post-match comments an update on Trevoh Chalobah and Hakim Ziyech, who were both substituted off against Wolves.

22-year-old Chalobah, who showed his versatility by filling in as a midfielder on Sunday, was substituted off during the interval after starting the contest. Meanwhile, 28-year-old attacker Ziyech came off midway through the second half after taking a whack.

“Trevoh hopefully it’s just painful. At the moment it’s very painful. We still hope it’s not serious, but we need to wait for further examination,” Tuchel said.

“Hakim I don’t think it’s bad. He got hit on the nerve on his calf, and it was tight so we had to take him off.”

Clearly, a lot is happening off the pitch right now that is impacting Chelsea on it, something which is the same for clubs up and down the country.

The Blues have now fallen six points adrift of leaders Manchester City, so perhaps they need to park any talk of the title until they can string a few wins together in a row.

Tuchel’s side play the top two Man City and Liverpool early in the New Year, which will be the ultimate test for them. It would be perfect to try pick up some momentum by winning the games they have scheduled beforehand.

A big positive to take from the Wolves result was the return of a clean sheet, with Thiago Silva a rock in the heart of defence.
